Rain, Winter, and a dash of Politics
As I sit here and type this I look outside and it’s so rainy outside it almost reminds me of spring. However, it’s not spring, and we’re about to go into winter. Which reminds me that I hate winter. Not so much because I hate snow, but because I hate how people drive here like they’ve never seen snow before. There seems to be no middle ground ever when it comes to winter drivers around here. But also, i hate the snow. That being said, in my opinion, there’s three basic categories of winter drivers in Michigan.
- The “It’s so bad” driver.
This driver thinks that every single snowflake that falls means you must slow down incrementally while driving. They are the ones that are going 5 miles an hour because theirs snow on the ground. They start braking a mile before their stopping or turning point, They cause unnecessary backups because they’re driving so slow. Sometimes it’s because they’re driving a new car or got different tires or something else replaced and they’re too nervous to actually drive the speed limit. This segways into the another type of slow driver, and they’re the ones that have been in an accident during the winter time (probably with somebody from the next group of drivers) so they take “extra caution”, because they are too scared of getting into another accident.- The “I Got This” driver
This driver tends to be driving a truck or SUV generally they think that because they are in said vehicle that they are immune to the hazards of winter. Often times they also driver smaller cars and think that for whatever reason they’re better than the rest at driving in the snow. These drivers are almost worst than the first group because if you get into an accident with them, they’re going so fast that it’s certain that one or both cars are going to slide into somebody else. At least with the first group, anybody walking by could get out in time, more often than not.- The “I’m Not a turd” driver
This driver is like the rare Pokemon of drivers. These are the drivers that drive slower than the posted limit but well above the “5” miles per hour of the first category drivers. They are the ones that are smiling and listening to the radio while it snows. These drivers are the true MVP of winter time. Unfortunately for every 10 of the other two categories i feel like there’s only one of these. And it’s usually me. Depending on the day.
I alluded to the fact that I was thinking about making a “political” blog post on Facebook a couple of days ago. There’s so much on my mind these days as I get more and more into politics as I get older. The problem is, I worry that my views will piss people off on both sides of the political spectrum. There’s very few subjects that I can’t sit down and at least come to some sort of middle ground on as far as politics go, but I feel that many people, while they say they are the same way, as soon as the tables are turned they seem to go crazy defending their view and rule out all other peoples views. During the election I had a person accuse me of being a bigot while they themselves were telling me my opinion didn’t matter. That’s supposed to be one of the cornerstones of the United States. A melting pot of opinions, and religions and people. I always seem to totter back and forth on where i land in everything. I’ve voted left, and I’ve voted right. People seem so quick to lose their tempers these days instead of being able to have a meaningful conversation. I’m not even sure where I want to start with all of this. There’s so much going on in Washington these days.
I think I’m going to make the political post a different post than this because… Well… I don’t know. I just am. It’s my prerogative.
Thanksgiving week is approaching, and I can’t even tell you how much I’m looking forward to that. A day off, and not only a day off but one that I know my phone won’t be blowing up. We’re having Thanksgiving this year at my brothers house. I think it’s gonna be a good year. My parents are coming, and my brother in law and sister along with my family.
As I type this I’m just finishing Saw III with Mikayla, and we’ve moved on to Saw IV. I had to give her a brief lesson in roman numerals because she wasn’t sure which was which and what they meant. Ahh kids these days. Although I can’t get much higher myself lol.
Anyways, I suppose that’s it for now. I’ve got a ton to try and get done tomorrow, so I need to get some sleep.

Today I said goodbye. I said goodbye to a friend who I’ve never been to the movies with. A friend I’ve never gone to the park with. Never went cruising around with. We’d never gone to the bar together. Never been to church together. Never met in person. Never had dinner together. Never had any meal together. But we’ve spent easily hundreds of hours “together”. We’ve spent countless hours chatting it up. Countless hours running people over in Grand Theft Auto V. Countless hours shooting ships in Elite: Dangerous. We’d spent countless hours in Skype. Ken was a regular guest of the Podcast / Stream that I’m part of. Many games we’d played together, many hours of deep chat about life, wives, kids, work, and everything else between.

or maybe Monday. We slept in until like 2pm! Which, for Shereen, is par for the course, but for me, that’s the most I’ve been able to sleep in, in months. We went and saw a movie, Central Intelligence Agency.
and stuff to do because we’ve not been able to catch a day off together. Like our marriage license. We’ve decided to keep the ceremony and reception very small. We’ll probably be posting something on Facebook within the next day or two, because there’s going to be a lot of people who want to come that aren’t going to be able to. Shereen has already ordered her dress and is expecting it any day. I’m tabbing back and forth while writing this blog post picking from a few ideas that I have for my wedding outfit. It’s going to be un-traditional but respectful. Shereen’s dress is as beautiful as she is, and is as equally simple.
