So I posted on Facebook the other day that I had my first puker in the Jeep. You’ll find that story further down. You can also wander over to [Ride Share Life] to see it over there. But first, we ventured down to Art Prize last week. Or maybe it was the week before. It’s all been blending together. Here’s some of the photos i took.
Art Prize was ok this year but I really feel like other years have been better. It will be interesting to see what the switch to every other year for Grand Rapids will bring. I was kind of excited about this because I thought it would bring even more people to Grand Rapids, but then I found out that it’s not really going to be every other year. In the years that it’s not in GR, it’s going to be in Dallas TX. I can’t seem to actually VERIFY that on the ArtPrize website, but I only skimmed it as that’s just too much to ask. On one hand, it could be good because being in a different part of the country will greatly increase the exposure that Art Prize gets and thusly increasing the entries in each city. On the other hand, it could cannibalize the number of entries that would come here. It remains to be seen what will happen.
So I finally had my first puker the other night while driving. I knew it was going to be an interesting ride just by the fist 30 seconds of the guy getting into the car. He gets in and, immediately, while his three companions are getting in the car he starts telling me that we’re going to bring him to his apartment and he’s going to prepare a drink and then we’re going to go to the Hookah Lounge on Fulton. He is, of course, 3 sheets to the wind at this point so it’s hard for me to exactly understand what he is asking of me. Finally his three companions have gotten themselves into the back seat. The one directly behind me decides that in order to convince me to bring them to the guys house and then bring them to the Hookah Lounge she’s going to start flirting with me. She starts going on and on as I’m driving telling me how cute I am, and how my pink shirt brings out my eye color. At this point the guy is on his cellphone talking to somebody rather loudly, the girl is behind me is trying to smother me in affection, the girl in the back middle is loudly telling me that this is Grand Rapids and nobody follows the rules when driving, and the girl in the back passenger side is starting to say roll down the window I’m hot, roll the down the window I’m hot, over and over. Now this — this is where I went wrong. The warning signs were right in front of me. Flashing in front of my eyes like a big bright neon sign. Flashing saying “roll down the window”. But of all the voices in the Jeep at that moment, hers was drowned out. We pull up to the apartment and the guy in the front seat starts pestering me again about bringing his drinks with them to the Hookah Lounge. I’m letting him know that I’ll be more than happy to bring them to the Hookah Lounge, but there would be no drinks coming along for the ride. At this point I start to hear the dreaded sound. I turn around, and the girl that was hollering for the window to be rolled down because she’s hot, is in the back seat puking all over the door, the window, outside the door, and all over the seat. She finally got out, turned around and puked on the outside of the door. Meanwhile dude decides he’s done with it all and tells me to forget going to Hookah Lounge. The middle girl gets out leaving me and the crazy girl that was sitting behind me in the car. Amazingly, she’s still trying to get me to bring them to the Hookah Lounge. I’m like, “dude… your friend literally just puked all over my car. My night’s done, I’m going home.” At this point she’s telling me that the dude is rich and he’ll pay for the cleaning if we bring them. I chuckled to myself, because ya… he was going to pay alright. Finally I got them all outta the Jeep and headed home to get the car cleaned as much as I could at that time of night (2:15am) and take pictures of the damages and send it in to Uber. By the time I woke up, Uber had already charged the guy and forwarded it on to me. Fun times.
I’m almost finished with my re(re)watch of Enterprise. I’ve got to say, after having watched almost all of it again, that I really enjoyed this series. It does get rolling rather slow, and the time travel shtick in the first 2 seasons feels rather over used. But then the last 2 seasons roll out and man, it’s good. Currently playing as I’m typing this, I just finished up part 1 of the Terra Prime stuff. After I finish Enterprise I’m gonna have to catch up on Walking dead seeing as Rick’s last episode was tonight or last night. Gonna have to see what that’s all about.
Anyways I suppose I should probably go to bed since it’s somehow reached 4am.

Before I get into my story, I guess I should preface it with the fact that I’m no longer at my old job. Last week was my last week there, and I worked my last shift on Saturday. So ya. For now I’m going to be driving Uber / Lyft full time until I decide to either go back to school or I find something else more “careerish”. So, that being said and out of the way. ON TO THE STORY!
So today I started driving for Uber and Lyft. I started this afternoon for about 4 hours and then came home for dinner and then hit the road again around 10pm till about 3:30am. Man. The amount of craziness tonight was astounding. I love it! I feel like it’s almost the perfect job for me because I just love talking to people. The whole sitting in the car for extending periods of time makes my restless legs… well restless. Also, I drank way too much liquids in the last 24 hours, because I kept having to stop like every 2 hours lol.
So the first great story was the mid 30’s mom I picked up from Billy’s. She was quite inebriated of course, but I had a feeling it was going to be interesting. She then started to tell me about how a year ago she had gotten a DUI because she got into a fight with her husband and went to the bar to drink. She then told me she left the bar to meet up with a dude to cheat on her husband with. Who, by the way, had just paid to have her get a boob job. I’m of course cutting a lot of details out because she put the wrong address into the app so we had to go across town. I then got to hear the story of how there’s a line or two waiting for her when she gets to her friends house.
The next story is of the couple that I picked up on the NE side of town heading to one of the bars downtown. When I pulled up, they were outside waiting so at first I was super pumped. Then I took a good look at them and realized the hipsterness that was about to enter my Jean Grey (that’s the name of my Jeep.) They were super friendly the entire ride, but about 3 minutes into talking with me they must’ve figure out that despite the beard, nose ring, and fauxhawk, that I’m not much more of a hipster. So then I got to listen to them talk to each other about how fantastic something was — I think pottery?, and how amazing that the speckles are able to show up when you work with it. They continued to talk about how everybody’s doing this now and it’s all over Etsy and on and on. My brain was numb by the time I dropped them off lolol.
Next was the 4 girls I picked up from Eastown and took 4 blocks to their house. They left me with a flower. And all the dirt that used to be attached to the flower. Definitely won the award for loudest riders of the evening. Super nice, just really loud.
Finally in the category of craziness was the two girls I picked up from East GR. They were apparently from Indiana and drove 3 hours to hang out with some boys. They were leaving because one of them got bit by the dog at the house they were going to stay at. They were going to have to stay in a room that apparently some other random chick was sleeping in — with “friends” aka a bunch of spiders. Honestly it sounded like a disaster so it was probably best they left.
I also had several other riders that were pretty interesting in general because of the conversation. I picked up one guy who was a Software Engineer for Spectrum Health. We had some interesting nerd chat about that. My first rider of the evening was actually one of my former co-workers. It was great to see her and catch up (so if you’re reading this, HI SAM!). I didn’t realize she lived like around the corner from me so that was interesting.
Anyways, since I’m not working 70-80 hours a week anymore, I’m gonna try to post more often. Maybe recap my rides every night or so, if I have funny stories to talk about.
